Emily
Carr Biography:
British
Columbia-born artist and writer, Emily Carr (also known as
ME Carr) painted the skies, forests and Native Indian cultures
of the Pacific Northwest in a style noted for its intense
energy and shimmering light.
Carr studied art in San Francisco and England and visited
France in 1910-11, but it was in the remote native Indian
villages of her home province that she found creative inspiration.
One of Canada's most famous painters, her career is testimony
to the fact that achievement is not reserved for the young.
Carr was 57 years old before her paintings gained national
critical attention, and it was in the years that followed
that she created the body of work on which her reputation
rests.
