This painting is a delicate still life painting. Donald Flather likely grew the flowers depicted in his garden at his Kerrisdale, Vancouver home.

Donald Flather was also a very accomplished potter and the vase depicted would also be one that he would have made using his potter's wheel and kiln located in the basement of his home. Donald even made his own glaze.
