"The
mating ground of the southern herd of Baffin Island
arctic Caribou. Only their ghosts remain, being wiped
out by Inuit and "white" hunters with modern
rifles, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, etc. The
ghosts show with difficulty in their pale wan white.
This
area is about ten miles north of where the Weasel River
empties into the North end of South Dangnirtung Fiord.
The Weasel River, except in Freshet, forms a thin blue
line this side of the grayish flood plain at the base
of the mountains. From 'plane flights. Sketched in July
1981, painted during 1982-3-4 on canvas"
